A few weeks back, The Real Todd Harrison wrote about his antics on his stage experience alongside his sidekick, Jim Slagle, at the Whisky-A-GoGo. That got me thinking about music, my favorite guitar axe men and, of course, my own sad experience with a 6-string.

But first, my personal favorite axers and a question for Jim Slagle. John Frusciante of the RHCP (Red Hot Chili Peppers) was recently described in Rolling Stone as a visionary–-no arguments here. In fact, he takes the RHCP to new heights on his most recent release on the strength of producer Rick Rubin, who lets him wander and turns the volume up on him a bit. The genius of the Peppers is that they bring a sense of deja vu in their songs that says, "Oh, yeah!" I always seem to know what Anthony Kiedis is talking about–-I’ve been there–-and then Frusciante seals it with a mind-blowing solo.

My other favorite is Mark Knopfler. I’m cutting my Italy trip a day short to get see him again in Boston in July. While he doesn’t bust lose like Frusciante enough for me, his tone is beautifully melodic. English music no doubt. What can I say? My wife is English.

So then Jim Slagle, who are your favorite axe men? While you’re at it, tell me the model and year of your 11 guitars. RTH….your favorites, or do you just play air guitar in front of the shower mirror? And CH…….yours…..knowing that you were the lead wingman in Huntington Beach High School polyester clad and marching band, and played the left clarinet?

As for me, I had a passable right strumming hand that plunked at my 1971 Telecaster (which ended up getting sold by a goony bagger who I loaned it to, likely to a fellow goonie bagger). But my left hand had no idea what it was doing. It acted like a frozen chicken wing on the fretboard.

If I could only have one wish...it would be for Mr. Slagle to have taken out the FRANKENSTRAT during the 5min. video on COAL the other day!

God Bless

I knew it was only a matter of time until Zaro wandered into the lifestyle section after sipping on a chillable red. I currently have zero guitars. Once had a banjo. I am a tremendous frontman. I dont need any instrument except one...if you get my drift. My religion is rock n'roll. I would like to see more of this kind of stuff from the Chart Whisperer. Very entertaining...although not quite like Cush circa 43.

By the way...none better than Eddie Van Halen.

Real Todd,

I let myself in, but thanks for providing cover......what, CH didn't like the comment on his marching band career?

I like the music is religion creed .....it is in our house. And I like it loud. We have no neighbors and I frequently turn it way up when I'm out in the garden.......having Flee and Frusciante carry across the stone walled fields adjoining my house is my parable.

We'll have to talk before I go to Italy about visiting your count.

Bruce I'll address this shortly.

Jim

 Bruce,

I have 8 axes currently.  Most are VH replicas:  Below is a list of my current stable of ponies:

2 Frankenstrat replicas, 1 5150 replica, 1 Shark replica, 1 VH1 black/white replica, A Black/Yellow Charvel Art Series, a Wolfang Standard, and my latest addition: a 1981 Tobacco Sunburst Les Paul Standard! The 81 Les Paul is unreal.  Definitely my favorite.

Rock on!

Very nice Doris, I mean Jim.

The Les Paul must be incredible...never held one. I'm not familar with the other ones, mostly new fangled? I seem to be partial or aware of the old names......Gibson and Fender.    I have always loved the Strats..the extra pick up seems to give it quite a bit of sound versatility. Maybe I'm just jealous as my Telecaster only had 2 pick -ups.

And how could RTH's original post not get a thought -provoking follow-up?

What IS the point of this debacle, and who let Zaro loose in the lifestyle section?

I looked back at some of those black and white year book photos and I swear I see Chip wearing the outfit with the hat and feather holding some type of stick.

Chip...Leave Zaro alone...he is always welcome here...even if he is not welcome in the pub! Rock on...

Way to drop a "goonie bagger" line in there!
