Mitt Romney?! Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

By Chip Hanlon | July 22, 2008 | 12:45 AM | 7 Comments

Robert Novak, who has a habit of being first to break big political stories, is reporting that John McCain's choice of a Vice Presidential running mate could come as early as this week. Unfortunately, he's also implying that Mitt Romney is the favorite to get the nod at this point.

Why do I say "unfortunately?" Because I'm constantly amazed at how little most people know about Mitt Romney, even folks who are pretty active in Republican politics and who supported his primary campaign. They're always blown away, however, when I show them the following video from when he ran for Senate in Massachusetts against Ted Kennedy... if you haven't seen it, just take 4 minutes and check this out:

Pretty surprising to see the "conservative," "pro-life" Romney so fully support abortion rights in this video, isn't it? It's even more shocking to any Republican to see him completely disavow the name of Ronald Reagan. And how about mandating that companies report salaries and job titles on all women and minorities in their quarterly filings to identify the "glass ceiling?" Huh?! Just what GM and its quarter of a million employees could use right about now.

Now, I'm not actually saying whether I agree or disagree with any of the beliefs of the "old" Mitt Romney shown above, I'm merely pointing out that there are two Mitt Romneys with two completely different sets of beliefs.

More likely, there really is just one Romney: the one who is willing to say whatever it takes to get elected.

So just imagine for a minute what Barack Obama would do the first time he took aim at Romney! With his silver tongue, Obama would discredit Romney so quickly and thoroughly that it would render him an empty pair of shoes for the remainder of the race.

Top off his insincere beliefs with his slick, gameshow host demeanor and Romney is just not a candidate who wears well over the long term, nor will he win McCain any extra votes from the middle or the left. I know the case for him says he'll energize the conservative base that McCain needs, but if Romney was so electrifying to "the base" in the first place, why did he get pounded so handily in the primary by the guy so many conservatives mistrust?

Don't do it, Mr. McCain. Everyone knows you don't even like Mitt Romney, and you'll find out all the strategic arguments being made in support of him won't play out, anyway. In this one instance, live up to your supposedly maverick credentials and surprise us--with anyone but Romney.

Old News

http://globalcapital.blogspot.com

This is very old news. Time to get current. In a state like Taxachusetts, even Mitt was more liberal. The new Mitt is the real one!

Personally, as a conservative myself, I won't vote for Obama or McCain. McCain is hardly a paragon of conservative values. He hates conservatives, shuns them at every turn, and his only strong value is working with liberals like Kennedy, Feingold, and Lieberman to create bills that destroy our values and our Constitution.

This fall, I will vote my principles instead of for power. I'll vote for either Bob Barr (Libertarian ticket) or Dr. Chuck Baldwin (Contstitution Party). I blame conservatives who keep voting for power and Party instead of principles for the mess we're in.

What better way to waste a vote than to give it to a man, like McCain, who won't support those principles once elected!

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” John Quincy Adams

If you vote against principle, you'll lose both power and principle. You lose because you've abandoned your principles, and you lose power because the person who you gave your vote to doesn't support your principle either. If you vote for principle, at least YOU can keep them!

I respect your thoughts but

I respect your thoughts but would urge you to reconsider: despite his flaws, the veto McCain would wield over this Congress has to tempt you. Or said another way: the notion of a President who will rubber stamp the Pelosi/Reid economic agenda should worry you.

If still no, then you might find this more hopeful: Spritof94.org

Best, -CH

Thank you for not voting for McCain or any one else except the independents. That way Obama can win the election just like Bush won because idiots like you voted for Nader. At least your not voting for the Moron and that way Obama can make the changes this country needs. I am sick of people like you telling me how to live my life what morality is ETC Etc I am not an idiot and i don't need the neocons telling me how to be a good person i am sick of you people and if you don't like it here why don't you just LEAVE!!!!

Lovely, as always, to hear

Lovely, as always, to hear from a representative of Daily Kos! McCain could pick Mickey Mouse and I'd be voting for him and his veto in November... I just don't think Romney gains him anything, strategically.

I agree 200%

I love it! --->>> "Don't do it, Mr. McCain. Everyone knows you don't even like Mitt Romney" So true.

There are many things about Romney that seem to be suspect in my opinion. While I trust McCain's word, I just don't trust his judgment. He clearly has no solutions that will help the economy unless you are corporate America or in the top 10% of wage earners. But as we know, that won't drive the economy.

Voting for Obama is like playing the routlette wheel - we could get nothing or some good improvements. With McCain, I can only see a more dire situation in the economy. Then again, I have a difficult time casting a vote for a candidate who has told Americas that "we need to learn Spanish." Is it possible to cast a write-in vote for yourself?

Mitt is the right choice

There are a lot of Republicans who would get a lot more excited about voting if Mitt was on the ticket. He is a lot more qualified to be prez than Obama and he is a whizz on the economy. Say what you will about flip flopping, Mitt is a likeable guy and the Republicans could use a likeable person on the ticket.
