Melissa Francis Stole My Thunder!

By Chip Hanlon | October 29, 2008 | 1:36 PM | 2 Comments

Anybody see that report by Jane Wells a little while ago on that gold broker in Los Angeles? The company, named Gold Line, is apparently a Monex-like phone mill for selling physical precious metals programs to individuals. Fine.

What struck me was the middle of the interview, when the CEO said that by January he was going to be doubling his staff of phone-banker salespeople to move metals! When asked where he was finding those folks and what sort of backgrounds they had, the answer was actually not that surprising: former mortgage brokers and real estate agents.

Now, I don't want to sound like a precious metals bear because I'm not, but that sounded toppy to my ears. And I wasn't alone: watch later in the interview when CNBC's Melissa Francis asked about precisely that idea (click the image below to view the segment):

Melissa Francis Steals my Thunder!

I remember thinking the housing bust had to be nearby when hearing how friends of friends were leaving their jobs at hair salons and surf shops (this is Huntington Beach, remember) to chase mortgage lending riches; now some of these same folks are part of the gold rush?

Hey, maybe it doesn't mean anything. Regardless, the minute I heard him utter those words I decided I had to blog on it and link to the video, then BANG! Francis steals my thunder just a few seconds later.  Oh, well, still pretty funny...nicely done, Melissa...
