It seems to me the author

It seems to me the author didn't mention at all about the influence of the conflict around Georgia on Russian economy. I suspect he underestimates Russia. Nowadays it doesn't depend heavily on oil, gas metals etc. Moreover, the West depends on Russia much more now than several years ago (in many aspects). Thus, Tom, you can advise whatever you want and smile to the public... Things have changed... And not in your favour...
