Uncertainty is in play as evidenced by the consolidation patterns on most of the sectors and major indexes. Volume has declined relative to the average volume levels confirming further the uncertainty facing investors’ short term. Technically speaking something has to break here before we get any clear indication of the next leg in this market. Our view is a retest of the January lows and then a decision will firm up from there.

The S&P 500 index remains above support at 875, barely. Broad markets gave up 2% last week on low volume and negative sentiment. However, earnings take center stage and we start with two key sectors. Early in the week is technology followed by financials. Both will play a key role in deciding on direction. The S&P 500 index gained 2.3% for the week, but managed to take out the 1005 resistance point. The primary question facing investors is will it stay?
